Job summary

City of Pocatello is seeking a City Engineer to lead the Engineering Department in planning, designing, and delivering municipal infrastructure and capital projects. The role oversees consultants, staff, and budgets, with emphasis on compliance and project delivery.

The incumbent will supervise personnel, coordinate GIS integration, and provide technical guidance to elected officials and the public. A PE license in Idaho and strong leadership skills are required.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required.
Current Idaho Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
Six to eight years of civil engineering experience.
Two years of supervisory/management experience preferred.
Valid Idaho driver’s license required.
CFM certification preferred but not required; must be attained within six months of hire date.

Responsibilities

Directs Engineering staff in planning, design, and implementation of infrastructure projects and capital improvements, in-house and with consultants.
Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal engineering regulations.
Acts as City’s Floodplain Administrator and oversees floodplain management activities.
Evaluates subdivision and site development proposals for engineering and code compliance; coordinates with Public Works for traffic impact studies.
Manages projects with multiple funding sources and oversees procurement and contracts.
Leads hiring, training, supervision, evaluation, and discipline of department staff.
