Job summary

The City of Pocatello seeks a City Engineer to lead the Engineering Department in the design, construction, and records management of infrastructure and capital improvements. You will supervise staff, manage budgets, and coordinate with consultants and contractors on complex projects.

The role requires Idaho PE licensure, strong leadership, and the ability to interpret technical information for officials and the public. It involves office and field work and collaboration with multiple agencies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required.
• Current Professional Engineer (PE) license in Idaho required.
• Six to eight years of civil engineering experience required.
• Two years of supervisory/management experience preferred.
• CFM certified preferred; must be attained within six months of hire.
• Valid Idaho driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

• Directs Engineering staff in planning, design, and implementation of infrastructure projects and capital improvements.
• Oversees compliance with local, state, and federal engineering regulations.
• Serves as City’s Floodplain Administrator per FEMA/NFIP requirements.
• Evaluates subdivision and site development proposals for engineering/code compliance.
• Coordinates projects with multiple funding sources and procurement rules.
• Prepares and evaluates bid documents and ensures construction meets requirements.
• Leads hiring, training, supervision, and performance evaluation.
