Job summary

The Christian and Missionary Alliance Eastern PA District is seeking a Lead Church Planter in Philadelphia to develop a Gospel-centered church planting network. You will lead a planting team, implement vision, and work toward multiplying disciples in urban context.

You will recruit and develop leaders, cultivate a culture rooted in Scripture, collaborate with district leadership, and pursue excellence in every aspect of church planting.

Qualifications

• Clear articulation of personal faith in Jesus with elder-like character.
• Licensed or willing to be licensed as an Alliance worker.
• Complete the district discernment/assessment process before beginning the role.
• Demonstrated experience of multiplication in the local church.

Responsibilities

• Conceptualize, develop, and lead the execution of a church planting strategy for a multiplying disciple-making community in the city.
• Oversee the curation of values, habits, and stories that create a culture of living with Jesus and mission
• Recruit, lead, develop, coach, and oversee the church planting team toward Gospel-rooted, courageous people
• Live missionally in the neighborhood where the church is rooted
• Clearly communicate the Gospel in a variety of environments
• Care for the spiritual maturity and development of the church

As a district, we are looking for a multiplying leader who is ready to bring the Gospel of Jesus to new communities through church planting in Philadelphia and help our district establish a regional network in the city.

As a Church Planter, you will be the spiritual, visional, and multiplication leader of a church planting team based in the city of Philadelphia. You will be responsible to seek the Lord’s direction in implementing a vision and strategy for creating a disciple-making community in the city. Through the creation of a church planting team, you will foster a community that is rooted in the Gospel, lives on faith-filled mission with Jesus, and exercises courageous leadership.

Each church planter is expected to be a Gospel-rooted, courageous, missional, and catalytic leader that meets the biblical qualifications of an elder. You are expected to lead the church planting team to be highly focused on disciple making, collaborative, and have a high level of excellence. You are expected to be developmental and creative in your approach to establishing a culture that leads to an effective multiplying work.

• Conceptualize, develop, and lead the execution of a church planting strategy that sees a multiplying disciple making community born in the city
• Oversee the curations of values, habits, and stories that create a culture of living with Jesus, being changed by Jesus, and commitment to the mission of Jesus
• Effectively recruit, lead, develop, coach, and oversee the church planting team and leadership toward being a Gospel-rooted, courageous, and faith-filled people
• Live missionally in the neighborhood where the church is to be rooted
• Clearly and passionately communicate the Gospel in a variety of environments
• Care for the spiritual maturity and development of the church

Basic Requirements

• Clear articulation of personal faith in Jesus, demonstrated character qualities of biblical elder, and an affinity for the philosophy of ministry of the District (i.e. Gospel development in regional networks)
• Licensed, or willing to be licensed, as an official worker of the Alliance
• Complete our district’s discernment/assessment process before beginning role
• Demonstrated experience of multiplication in the local church

• Experience with starting ministries in new contexts, communities, and cultures
• Highly strategic, organized, and entrepreneurial with exceptional communication skills
• Creativity and a willingness to try new approaches
• Established skills in crisis management, decision-making, and relationship-building

Direct reports to Executive Director of the district as a part of Philadelphia Church Planting Initiative

Compensation

TBD based on Church Plant Development Plan
