Job summary

SACO AEI Polymers is seeking a development scientist to lead polymer development projects, analyze data, and clearly communicate findings to senior management and the commercial team. The role includes lab work and occasional customer-site visits.

Requires a BS/BA in a relevant field, strong statistical design skills, excellent writing and speaking abilities, and MS Office proficiency. Familiarity with polymer synthesis and extrusion is expected, with Lean Six Sigma training preferred.

Qualifications

  • BS/BA degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, polymer technology or polymer engineering.
  • Understanding of statistical methods and experimental design techniques.
  • Experience in writing lab/technical reports.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with the MS Office suite of programs.
  • Familiarity with polymer chemistry and synthesis.
  • Experience with DSC, TGA, Rheology, FTIR.
  • Familiarity with polymer extrusion and compounding techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a portfolio of development and other projects as assigned.
  • Utilize internal work request and project management systems to execute projects.
  • Follow-up and day to day engagement to ensure project roadblocks are overcome and timelines are maintained.
  • Host project meetings and cross functional project reviews.
  • Follow projects through their lifecycle from idea through verification and validation.
  • Occasional travel to end use customer plant locations for initial commercial launch.
  • Utilizes basic statistical analysis to assist in evaluating data.
  • Assist in generation of new project ideas through literature research.

Job description

Utilizes sound technical knowledge of polymeric materials, polymer testing, and analytical techniques to lead projects that will focus on improve existing product performance, reducing cost, and developing new products. Will occasionally assist with project related lab work to perform routine and non-routine testing utilizing various analytical instruments and will continue writing detailed technical reports to communicate findings to Senior Management and Commercial Team.What You'll Be Doing:Lead a portfolio of development and other projects as assignedUtilize current internal work request and project management systems to execute projectsFollow-up and day to day engagement to ensure project roadblocks are overcome and timelines are maintained and pushedHost project meetings and cross functional project reviewsFollow projects through their entire lifecycle from idea through verification and validationOccasional travel to end use customer plant locations for initial commercial launchUtilizes basic statistical analysis to assist in evaluating data obtained from experimental workUnderstand and effectively utilize analytical resources available to further projectsAssist in generation of new project ideas through literature researchWhat You Need to Succeed:RequirementsBS/BA Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Technology or Polymer EngineeringIn depth understanding of statistical methods and experimental design techniquesExperience in writing lab/ technical reportsExcellent oral and written communication skillsProficiency with the MS Office suite of programsFamiliarity with polymer chemistry and synthesisBase knowledge of appropriate scientific principles related to their core business unit workExperience with DSC, TGA, Rheology (both Rotational and Capillary) and FTIRFamiliarity with polymer extrusion and compounding techniques, specifically Twin-Screw Extrusion, Farrel Continuous Mixing, Buss Co Kneader, and Single Screw ExtrusionProject Management Training / ExperiencePreferred SkillsExperience in a manufacturing environment (specifically Polymers is a bonus)Experience with in-depth Analytical techniques (i.e., HPLC, GC/MS, GPC etc.)Advanced Degree in a scientific disciplineLean Six Sigma TrainingPhysical Requirements:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand and/or walk, talk and/or hear, and/or use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects, tools, or controls.
