Job description

Lead Chemical Process Engineer (Finance)

Innovate to solve the world's most important challenges

This position is intended to convey to the new, independent company, to be named Solstice Advanced Materials when the separation occurs, expected in late 2025 or early 2026.

At Advanced Materials, we are committed to offering high-value specialty solutions in the advanced materials sector. Our goal is to solve complex challenges through an innovative product portfolio, delivering exceptional value to stakeholders. We plan to grow by expanding into new products and markets and through strategic acquisitions while maintaining top margins.

Joining our team means becoming part of an organization that leverages its reputation to capture growth trends via innovation, manufacturing enhancements, and deep customer relationships.

We foster a collaborative, inclusive environment that values contributions and supports professional growth. Our focus on innovation and sustainability aims to deliver value and make a meaningful impact in advancing our customers' success. Let's make that impact together.

Note: In October 2024, Honeywell announced the spin-off of its Advanced Materials business to become a standalone company, Solstice. Until the separation is finalized, you will be a Honeywell employee. This role is expected to transfer to Solstice upon separation, anticipated in late 2025 or early 2026.

As a Lead Chemical Process Engineer, you will utilize your knowledge of chemical process engineering to deliver innovative solutions that meet customer needs. You will work with renowned engineers on groundbreaking projects, expanding existing processes and developing next-generation products by designing, testing, and validating from pilot to market scale.

You will support Honeywell Advanced Industrial Solutions (AIS) in delivering innovative, customer-focused solutions, working alongside talented engineers to develop products from prototypes to market. You will be part of a dedicated team that ensures project success through expertise and commitment.

Due to U.S. export control laws, candidates must be U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or have asylum or refugee status in the U.S.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support Pre-FEED and FEED development, including process scope and design solutions for growth projects, such as high molecular weight polyethylene fiber and shield armor production.
  • Identify and mitigate technical and process safety risks during design.
  • Develop process models, heat and material balances, process flow diagrams, piping & instrumentation diagrams, control schemes, equipment specifications, and plant layouts, including simulations and hydraulic models.
  • Provide on-site technical support during construction, commissioning, startup, and product trials.
  • Evaluate process alternatives during design and justify improvements with economic analysis.
  • Develop expertise in process chemistry and unit operations to enable scale-up from laboratory and pilot data to commercial design.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing sites to optimize processes and implement productivity projects.

Note: The role is aligned with Honeywell's planned spin-off of the Advanced Materials business, Solstice, expected in late 2025 or early 2026.

Minimum Qualifications
  • 5+ years of Process Engineering experience in an industrial manufacturing setting, with project development experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering.
  • Significant experience with polymer fiber and film production or new process development.
  • Experience in process design and startup on large capital projects ($10M-$100M).
  • Ability to develop cost-effective project scopes and justify project value.
  • Knowledge of industry standards such as NFPA 30.
  • Strong team facilitation skills for cross-functional teams.
