Responsibilities

  • Performs all tasks associated with filling and dispensing community prescriptions under pharmacist supervision.
  • Maintains expertise in insurance claim adjudication, reject resolution, and copay assistance programs.
  • Performs simple nonsterile compounding per USP 795 guidelines and state law.
  • Oversees prescription courier and mailing processes.
  • Completes Meds to Beds prescription delivery for discharge patients.
  • Prioritizes workflow by patient impact and reports problems to the Pharmacist when unresolved.
  • Maintains patient-centered, prompt, friendly service in the Community Pharmacy.
  • Escalates patient complaints to the Pharmacist for timely resolution.
  • Oversees inventory management, ordering, receiving, restocking, and physical inventory prep.
  • Assists with keeping the Pharmacy department clean and organized.
  • Completes 340B audits as applicable to location.
  • Completes technician training and competency assessments.
  • Assists with monthly business reports and maintenance of pharmaceutical contracts.

Summary

The primary purpose of the Pharmacy Technician is to assist the Pharmacist and Pharmacy Manager with serving customers and maintaining the Community Pharmacy at Baptist Health. This position requires taking responsibility within appropriate guidelines under the supervision of the pharmacist for many of the medication preparation and distribution duties. The Community Pharmacy Technician will assist the Community Pharmacy Manager and Staff Pharmacists in prescription fulfillment, playing a key role in pharmacy operations and providing excellent patient service. The Community Pharmacy Technician is required to perform all tasks in a safe manner consistent with Baptist Health System policies, federal, and state pharmacy regulations. The Community Pharmacy Technician functions in a multi-skilled environment, which requires the application of teamwork, leadership and flexibility. This position has a high degree of interaction with patients, family members, visitors and other members of the health care team. The Community Pharmacy Lead Technician is a subject matter expert in medication dispensing, processing, troubleshooting, and resolving complex third-party insurance claims and rejections, point of sale processes, inventory maintenance tasks, and has excellent customer service skills. The Community Pharmacy Lead Technician assists the Community Pharmacy Manager with the operational supervision of the community pharmacy workflow including prescription delivery and mail order services, technician training and competency development, and problem solving. The Community Pharmacy Lead Technician has extensive knowledge on the 340B program ensuring compliance. The Community Pharmacy Lead Technician oversees all inventory management functions.

Job Description:
  • Performs all tasks associated with the filling and dispensing of community prescriptions as permitted by state law including but not limited to: computer order entry, updating patient personal and insurance information, filling and labeling prescriptions, and completing transactions at the point of sale.
  • Maintains subject matter expertise with insurance claim adjudication, reject resolution, and copay assistance programs.
  • Performs simple nonsterile compounding per current USP<795> guidelines and as permitted by state law.
  • Oversees prescription courier and mailing processes.
  • Completes and oversees Meds to Beds prescription delivery processes for discharge patients.
  • Ability to prioritize workflow by patient impact and ensure that all assigned tasks are completed at the end of the shift. All identified problems, if they cannot be corrected by the employee, will be reported to the Pharmacist.
  • Performs all functions and duties with the patient at the center, ensuring prompt and friendly service in the Community Pharmacy.
  • Maintains professionalism with communication with patients, caregivers, and inter-disciplinary interactions.
  • Escalates all identified problems or patient complaints, if they cannot be corrected by the employee, to the Pharmacist to ensure timely resolution.
  • Oversees inventory management processes including order review, receiving, restocking, inventory returns, and physical inventory preparation.
  • Assists with maintaining the Pharmacy department by keeping it clean and in order.
  • Completes 340B audits as applicable to location.
  • Completes technician training and competency assessments.
  • Assists the Community Pharmacy Manager with monthly business reports and maintenance of
  • pharmaceutical contracts.
  • Attends and contributes to the content of meetings and committees as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
  • Registration with the Kentucky Board of Pharmacy within 30 days or upon hire as applicable to practice location.
  • Nationally certified as a pharmacy technician.
  • 2 years of job-related experience.
  • 340B University completion or Apexus certification (if applicable) within 1 year.
