Job summary

S&ME seeks mid-level or lead CEI Inspectors to join our Transportation team across North Carolina, including Asheville. You will oversee contractor activities, ensure safety, quality, and regulatory compliance on highway projects, and perform data-rich field inspections.

The role requires strong math and English communication, a HS diploma (or GED), active NCDOT certifications, and willingness to travel. This is a full-time, field-oriented position with diverse project sites.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Prior experience in highway construction or inspection.
• NCDOT certifications (QMS Roadway, Conventional Density, Concrete Field Technician, Erosion Control II, Nuclear Gauge) required.
• Strong English communication (oral and written).
• Willingness to travel as needed.

Responsibilities

• Oversee construction activities to ensure compliance with plans and safety.
• Inspect erosion control and environmental measures; perform sampling and testing.
• Prepare daily inspection reports and document contractor performance.
• Conduct calculations and maintain material quantity records; meet timelines.
• Attend progress and safety meetings with contractors and engineers.
