Job summary

S&ME is seeking Construction Engineering and Inspection (CEI) Inspectors to support transportation projects across North Carolina, including Asheville, Charlotte, Greensboro, Raleigh, Wilmington, and surrounding areas. This mid-level or lead technician role involves overseeing contractor activities and making technical decisions on medium to large projects.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, experience in highway construction or inspection, and active NCDOT certifications.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required.
Prior experience in highway construction or inspection required.
Active NCDOT certifications such as QMS Roadway, Conventional Density, Concrete Field Technician, Erosion Control Level II, and/or Nuclear Gauge.
Strong English communication skills (oral and written).
Solid math skills with weight, volume, pressure, and measurement units.
Flexibility to work variable schedules and willingness to travel.

Responsibilities

Oversee contractor activities and ensure compliance with plans, specs, and safety standards on medium to large projects.
Inspect erosion control and environmental compliance; perform material sampling and quality testing.
Prepare detailed daily inspection reports and document contractor performance and payments.
Conduct calculations and maintain records of material quantities to meet project timelines.
Attend progress and safety meetings; coordinate with contractors, engineers, and stakeholders.
Perform DBE/EEO compliance surveys to verify inclusivity and workforce standards.
