Job summary

Abrazo West Campus Hospital is seeking a Working Lead Cath Lab Technologist to coordinate scheduling and the efforts of the Cath Lab Technologists. The role trains and mentors staff, provides patient care and supports physicians with patient condition updates.

The lead will scrub, circulate and operate in the Cath Lab, ensure aseptic technique and radiation safety, and participate in CQI activities. On-call responsibilities may apply as needed.

Qualifications

  • Two-year radiologic technology training from AMA-approved program or ARRT-equivalent on-the-job training.
  • Must attend EKG, Hemodynamics, IABP classes within four months of hire.
  • Experience: 1–3 years in acute health care Special Procedures or Cardiac Cath Lab.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate scheduling and efforts of the Cath Lab Technologists.
  • Train and mentor staff; ensure equipment readiness.
  • Assist physicians during invasive and noninvasive procedures; maintain patient safety.
  • Maintain aseptic technique and radiation safety throughout procedures.
  • On-call procedures and, in absence of supervisor, oversee Cath Lab operations.

Job description

Position Summary

Working lead. Coordinates the scheduling and efforts of the Cath Lab Technologists. Trains and Mentors staff. Lead Technician providing technical and patient support and patient care. Communicates continuously with the physician about patient condition. Assist physician during invasive and noninvasive procedures. Operates all equipment safely and correctly. Assesses procedure room for equipment functioning and readiness. Obtains supplies for individual cases and ensures all appropriate needs of the Cardiac Cath Laboratory team are met. Participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities. Responsible for on-call procedures when indicated. In Absence of Supervisor/Director, this position oversees the Cath Lab Techs to ensure that the unit is operating efficiently and effectively. Technician is authorize to be in the presence of medications.



  • Assists in the cleanup of room following procedure to include appropriate disposal of used supplies, handling of instruments, returning and restocking of supplies. Also participates in the restocking, resupplying and cleaning of the support areas.

  • Assists in positioning, prepping and draping of patients for procedures. Gives patient explanations and verbal reassurances consistently.

  • Sets up and scrubs for procedures in a timely manner that allows the patient to come into the room 5 minutes prior to schedule start time.

  • Maintains aseptic technique when opening sterile supplies, setting up procedures and during all invasive procedures

  • Operates all equipment safely and correctly. Performs preventative maintenance as needed. Ensures proper functioning prior to each procedure.

  • Ability to work as a team member, assists physicians and assists the with the interpretations of data collected.

  • Able to scrub, circulate and operate in the control room for all procedures in the Cardiac Cath Laboratory.

  • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.

  • Performs patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for the patients age.

  • Assures radiation safety and monitoring

  • Other related job tasks or responsibilities as assigned



  • Special Skills: Demonstrated critical thinking skills to be able to pass orientation.

  • Minimum Requirements

    • Education:

      • Completion of formal two year radiologic technology training in AMA approved school which meets requirements for registry by the ARRT or equivalent on-the-job training including a minimum of four months orientation.

      • Must attend EKG, Hemodynamics, IABP classes within four months of hire.



    • Experience: One - three years of experience in an acute health care Special Procedures setting or Cardiac Catheterization Lab.

    • Licensure/Certifications:

      • Current Arizona Registered Radiologic Technologist (ARRT-CV).

      • Current BLS





  • Preferred Requirements

    • Certification/Registrations: ACLS
