GENERAL SUMMARY & SCOPE
The Lead Cashier (LC) is responsible for ensuring guest transactions are efficient and maintaining excellence in cashwrap standards, including cleanliness and overall aesthetics. The LC assists in training new cashiers and cross-training other associates, demonstrating proactive collaboration, leadership, and influence. This role focuses on driving loyalty results, including credit, through performance (sales, guest experience, and loyalty), people (guest service, and associate training and development), and process (operating procedures and compliance standards with an emphasis on cashiering). The Lead Cashier supports the leadership team with register functions during opening and closing, associate exit inspections, cashier chat ins/outs, and requires a passion for guest experience, process excellence, and delivering exceptional results by engaging every guest on the benefits of our Loyalty Life Cycle, contributing positively to achieving goals.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Performance
- Contribute to meeting or exceeding store goals related to retail and service sales, omni-channel, guest loyalty (including credit), and retail shrinkage as set by Ulta Beauty.
- Provide exceptional service by greeting and engaging each guest, personalizing service, and recommending products and/or services.
- Handle sales, refunds, and exchanges courteously.
- Support guest experiences by pairing guests with associates for makeup applications, skincare analysis, and product demonstrations to boost sales and satisfaction.
- Book appointments and support in-store events to enhance guest experience while achieving sales goals.
- Maintain replenishment, organization, and readiness of all cashwrap displays, supplies, and impulse fixtures.
- Ensure prompt, regular attendance.
People
- Support an inclusive environment for teammates, peers, and guests.
- Assist leadership with cashier chat ins/outs and associate exit inspections as needed.
- Stay informed about industry trends, products, and services, and be knowledgeable about their ingredients and benefits.
- Promote the guest loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta Beauty app, creating excitement and accountability for credit and loyalty goals.
- Assist in training new cashiers and cross-training associates in cashiering.
- Lead by engaging and influencing peers to achieve productivity and performance targets.
- Drive cashier accountability in delivering personalized Ulta Beauty experiences and following system prompts.
- Participate in ongoing training to enhance professional development and sales performance.
- Collaborate with store management and staff to grow the business.
Process
- Ensure compliance with Ulta Beauty’s policies, procedures, and standards.
- Adhere to dress code standards.
- Complete all transactions accurately, including returns and media control, according to company policies.
- Perform select register opening and closing functions as directed.
- Maintain store cleanliness and standards throughout the store, including at the cashwrap, salesfloor, restrooms, backroom, and break area.
- Protect assets and minimize loss through adherence to operational standards, safety, inventory control, and loss prevention.
- Perform other operational tasks as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- High school diploma preferred.
Experience
- 2 years of relevant experience or equivalent education and work experience preferred.
- Proven delegation, multitasking, and problem-solving skills.
- Passion for guest service and sales.
- Experience handling guest concerns professionally.
- Experience exceeding sales goals and training new hires.
Skills
- Proficient with basic technology (e.g., POS systems, Apple devices).
- Excellent communication skills.
- Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to build and maintain customer relationships.
- Ability to react under pressure, use good judgment, and be adaptable.
SPECIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- The Lead Cashier role is restricted to individuals 18 years or older.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Mobility throughout the store during shifts, including bending, reaching, and twisting.
- Frequent lifting up to 25 lbs.
- Continuous manipulation of objects during shifts.
