General Summary & Scope

The Lead Cashier (LC) is responsible for ensuring the efficiency of guest transactions and maintaining excellence in cashwrap standards, including cleanliness and overall aesthetics. The LC assists in training new cashiers and cross-training other associates, demonstrating the ability to proactively collaborate, lead, and influence peers. This role drives loyalty results, including credit, by focusing on performance, people, and process. The LC supports the leadership team with register functions, associate inspections, and cashier chat ins/outs, requiring a passion for guest experience, process excellence, and delivering exceptional results.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

The LC embodies Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision, and values, performing duties including:

  • Contributing to meeting or exceeding store sales, loyalty, and shrink goals.
  • Providing exceptional guest service, greeting, engaging, and personalizing service.
  • Handling sales, refunds, and exchanges courteously.
  • Supporting in-store services and events to enhance guest experience.
  • Maintaining cashwrap displays, supplies, and impulse fixtures.
  • Ensuring prompt attendance and store standards.

People

  • Supporting an inclusive environment.
  • Completing cashier chat ins/outs and associate inspections.
  • Staying informed on industry trends and products.
  • Promoting the loyalty program and creating excitement around credit and loyalty goals.
  • Training new cashiers and cross-training associates.
  • Engaging and influencing peers to achieve performance goals.
  • Participating in ongoing training and collaborating to grow the business.

Process

  • Ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Adhering to dress code.
  • Completing transactions, including returns and media control.
  • Executing register functions and maintaining store cleanliness.
  • Protecting assets and minimizing loss.

Job Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma preferred.

Experience

  • 2 years of relevant work experience or equivalent preferred.
  • Ability to delegate, multi-task, and problem-solve.
  • Knowledge and passion for guest service and selling.
  • Experience in exceeding sales goals and training new hires.

Skills

  • Proficient with POS systems and technology.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in teams.
  • Builds and maintains customer relationships.
  • React under pressure and adapt flexibly.

Special Position Requirements

  • Flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, holidays.
  • Must be 18 or older to hold the role.

Working Conditions

  • Mobility throughout the store during shifts.
  • Frequent bending, lifting up to 25 lbs., and object manipulation.
