General Summary & Scope

The Lead Cashier (LC) is responsible for the efficiency of guest transactions and maintaining excellence in cashwrap standards, including cleanliness and overall aesthetics. Experienced in cashiering, the LC assists in training new cashiers and cross-training other associates, demonstrating the ability to proactively collaborate, lead, and influence peers. This position drives loyalty results, including credit, through a focus on performance (sales, guest experience, and loyalty), people (guest service, and associate training and development), and process (operating procedures and compliance standards with an emphasis on cashiering). The Lead Cashier supports the leadership team with register functions, associate exit inspections, and cashier chat in/outs, requiring a passion for the guest experience, process excellence, and delivering exceptional results by engaging every guest on the benefits of our Loyalty Life Cycle and contributing to goal achievement.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

The LC demonstrates Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision, and values through these duties:

Performance
  • Contribute to meeting or exceeding retail and service sales, omni-channel, guest loyalty, and retail shrink goals.
  • Ensure each guest receives exceptional service, including greeting, engaging, personalizing service, and product recommendations.
  • Handle sales, refunds, and exchanges courteously.
  • Support guest services like makeup applications, skincare analysis, and product demonstrations to enhance sales and experience.
  • Book appointments and support in-store events to deliver an outstanding guest experience.
  • Maintain replenishment, organization, and readiness of cashwrap displays and supplies.
  • Maintain consistent attendance.
People
  • Support an inclusive environment for teammates and guests.
  • Assist leadership with cashier chat ins/outs and associate exit inspections.
  • Stay informed on industry trends, products, and services to better serve guests.
  • Promote the guest loyalty program and create excitement around credit and loyalty goals.
  • Assist in training new cashiers and cross-training associates.
  • Engage and influence peers to achieve high performance.
  • Drive accountability in delivering the Ulta Beauty experience and following systems prompts.
  • Participate in ongoing training to enhance professional development and sales performance.
  • Collaborate store-wide to grow the business.
Process
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Adhere to dress code.
  • Complete all transactions accurately and control cash/media according to policies.
  • Perform register open/close functions as directed.
  • Maintain store standards and cleanliness throughout the store.
  • Protect assets and minimize loss through adherence to standards.
  • Perform other operational tasks as assigned.
Job Qualifications
Education
  • High school diploma preferred.
Experience
  • 2 years relevant experience or equivalent education and experience preferred.
  • Ability to delegate, multi-task, and problem-solve.
  • Passion for guest service and sales.
  • Experience in exceeding sales goals and training new hires.
Skills
  • Proficient with POS systems and technology.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in teams.
  • Build and maintain customer relationships.
  • React well under pressure and adapt to situations.
Special Position Requirements
  • Flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be 18+ years old.
Working Conditions
  • Mobility throughout the store during shifts.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting up to 25 lbs.
  • Engagement in physical activities during shifts.
