GENERAL SUMMARY & SCOPE

The Lead Cashier (LC) is responsible for the efficiency of guest transactions and maintaining excellence in cashwrap standards, including cleanliness and overall aesthetics. Experienced in cashiering, the LC assists in training new cashiers and cross-training other associates, demonstrating the ability to proactively collaborate, lead, and influence peers. This position drives loyalty results, including credit, through a focus on performance (sales, guest experience, and loyalty), people (guest service, and associate training and development), and process (operating procedures and compliance standards with an emphasis on cashiering). The Lead Cashier supports the leadership team with register opening and closing, associate exit inspections, and cashier chat ins/outs. A passion for the guest experience, process excellence, and delivering exceptional results by engaging every guest on the benefits of our Loyalty Life Cycle is essential, as is contributing positively to team goals.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Performance
  • Contribute to meeting or exceeding store goals related to retail and service sales, omni-channel, guest loyalty (including credit), and retail shrink.
  • Provide exceptional service by greeting and engaging each guest, personalizing service, and recommending products and/or services.
  • Handle sales, refunds, and exchanges courteously.
  • Assist guests with makeup applications, skincare analysis, and product demonstrations to enhance sales and experience.
  • Support appointment bookings and in-store events to deliver an outstanding guest experience while achieving sales targets.
  • Maintain and replenish cashwrap displays, supplies, and impulse fixtures to ensure guest readiness.
  • Maintain punctual and regular attendance.
People
  • Support an inclusive environment for teammates and guests.
  • Assist leadership with cashier chat ins/outs and associate exit inspections.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, products, and services, and be knowledgeable to better serve guests.
  • Promote the guest loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta Beauty app, to guests and team members, fostering excitement and accountability.
  • Train new cashiers and cross-train associates in cashiering.
  • Engage and influence peers to achieve peak performance and productivity.
  • Ensure cashier accountability in delivering a personalized Ulta Beauty experience and following systems prompts.
  • Participate in ongoing training for professional development and sales growth.
  • Collaborate store-wide to support business growth.
Process
  • Ensure compliance with Ulta Beauty’s policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Adhere to dress code standards.
  • Complete all transactions accurately, including returns and media control, according to company policies.
  • Perform register opening and closing as directed.
  • Maintain store cleanliness and standards throughout the store.
  • Protect assets and minimize loss through adherence to operational procedures.
  • Perform other operational duties as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • High school diploma preferred.

Experience

  • 2 years of relevant work experience or equivalent education and experience preferred.
  • Proven delegation, multi-tasking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Passion for guest service and sales.
  • Experience in addressing guest concerns professionally.
  • Experience exceeding sales goals and training new hires.

Skills

  • Proficient with POS systems and basic technology.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Ability to build customer relationships.
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt flexibly.
SPECIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • Flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be 18 years or older to hold the Lead Cashier role.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Mobility throughout the store during shifts.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting up to 25 lbs., and other physical activities.
