GENERAL SUMMARY & SCOPE

The Lead Cashier (LC) is responsible for the efficiency of guest transactions and maintaining excellence in cashwrap standards, including cleanliness and overall aesthetics. Experienced in cashiering, the LC assists in training new cashiers and cross-training other associates. This role requires proactive collaboration, leadership, and influence among peers. The Lead Cashier drives loyalty results, including credit, focusing on performance (sales, guest experience, loyalty), people (guest service, training, development), and process (operating procedures and compliance). The LC supports opening and closing registers, associate exit inspections, and cashier chat ins/outs, with a passion for guest experience, process excellence, and delivering exceptional results by engaging guests in our Loyalty Life Cycle and contributing to goal achievement.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The LC embodies Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision, and values by performing the following duties and responsibilities, along with other assigned tasks:

Performance
  • Contribute to meeting or exceeding store goals related to retail and service sales, omni-channel, guest loyalty (including credit), and retail shrinkage.
  • Ensure exceptional guest service by creating a guest-friendly environment, greeting and engaging each guest, personalizing service, and recommending products or services.
  • Handle sales, refunds, and exchanges courteously.
  • Support guest services such as makeup applications, skincare analysis, and product demonstrations to enhance sales and guest experience.
  • Book appointments and support in-store events to deliver a superior guest experience while achieving sales targets.
  • Maintain replenishment, organization, and readiness of all cashwrap displays and supplies.
  • Ensure prompt and regular attendance.
People
  • Support an inclusive environment for teammates, peers, and guests.
  • Assist leadership with cashier chat ins/outs and associate exit inspections.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, products, and services, and be knowledgeable about their ingredients and benefits.
  • Promote the guest loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta Beauty app, to guests and team members.
  • Assist in training new cashiers and cross-training associates.
  • Engage and influence peers to achieve high performance.
  • Drive cashier accountability in delivering personalized brand experiences and following systems prompts.
  • Participate in ongoing training to support professional development and sales performance.
  • Collaborate with store team to grow the business.
Process
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Adhere to dress code.
  • Complete all transactions accurately, including returns and media control.
  • Perform register opening and closing functions as directed.
  • Maintain store standards and cleanliness throughout the store.
  • Protect assets and minimize loss through adherence to operational procedures.
  • Execute other operational tasks as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • High school diploma preferred.

Experience

  • 2 years of relevant work experience or equivalent preferred.
  • Ability to delegate, multi-task, and problem-solve.
  • Passion for guest service and sales.
  • Experience in addressing guest concerns professionally.
  • History of exceeding sales goals and training new hires.

Skills

  • Proficient with POS systems and Apple devices.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in teams.
  • Ability to build customer relationships.
  • Adaptability and good judgment under pressure.
SPECIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • Flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be 18 years or older to hold this role.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Mobility throughout the store during shifts.
  • Frequent bending, lifting up to 25 lbs, and other physical activities.
