Job summary

Sylvania is seeking a Lead Cashier for our school food service program in Meridian Charter Township, Michigan. The role focuses on proper POS operation during meal service, end-of-day banking, and related food service duties in a busy school environment.

Responsibilities include cash handling, drawer counts, bank deposits, and coordinating with kitchen staff to ensure timely delivery of orders. A High School diploma and ServeSafe or 10-hour sanitation certificate are preferred.

Job description

Position Title: Lead Cashier

SUMMARY: Responsible for properly operating the Point of Sale system during meal service.

Completing End of Day on the Point of Sale system. Completing the bank deposit for the

building. Position is also related to food preparation or service, performing such activities as

serving food, washing and sanitizing equipment and utensils, stocking of food and supplies, and

assisting with other related duties required in operating the food service program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.

Understands and follows the regulations and goals of the Child Nutrition Program set

forth on the State and Federal level

Follows Health Department and Food Service Departmental rules

Maintains accurate Point of Sale records conforming to federal and state guidelines

Completes the End of Day procedures on the Point of Sale system

Counts each cashiers’ drawer

Combines all receipts and prepares the bank deposit

Enters accurately the items that are purchased and collects the correct amount of the sale.

Stocks and cleans assigned areas

Gathers orders for the kitchen and delivers to the secondary coordinator

Performs all other duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High School diploma required. Valid ServeSafe certificate or valid certificate from a 10-hour

approved sanitation class, preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze and interpret general information. Ability to effectively present

information and respond to questions from students, parents, staff and general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s.

Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement,

volume and distance.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to understand common sense reasoning and to carry out detailed but basic written or oral

instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized

situations.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Ability to work in a friendly manner with co-workers and students. Good organizational and

math skills; ability to lift 30 pounds, ability to perform job and communicate in a noisy

environment. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students,

staff and community. Ability to operate a personal computer and related software. Ability to

perform duties with full awareness of all district requirements and the Board of Education

policies.
