ReNEW Schools is seeking a Cook/Cashier to assist with breakfast and lunch service and to operate the cash register for the dining program. The role includes food preparation support, adherence to safety standards, and occasional catering help.

The position requires Food Safety Certification, responses to daily service responsibilities, and collaboration with Kitchen Supervisor and Nutrition Services Director.

  • Assist with catering prep and display items as needed.
  • Follow School Corporation policies and procedures.

Job description

SUMMARY:

The role of the Cook/Cashier is to assist with preparing breakfast/lunch and to run the register, serving our customers throughout the day. Any other tasks assigned by the Kitchen Supervisor or NutritionServices Director.

EDUCATION/LICENSE/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  1. All appointed staff must obtain a Food Safety Certification before or shortly after a few months of employment.
  2. Universal Precautions and Fire Safety Training.
  3. Professional Development 6 hours/annual (attendance is mandatory).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties as assigned
  1. Maintain professional attire: proper uniform, apron on, hands washed and ready to work.
  2. Assist in getting breakfast set out for service.
  3. Run register for breakfast service (if in rotation).When finished, clean up breakfast accordingly.
  4. Run register during each lunch (1st, 2nd, and 3rd) and return to kitchen after each line to help with any food prep.
  5. If time permits, complete more tasks off of daily to do list
  6. Clean up your line, sanitize and return to kitchen
  7. Help do dishes through dish machine, clean and sanitize prep tables, sinks, sweep and mop
  8. Ask Supervisor if they need anything before leaving for the day.
  9. All Nutrition Services duties including having knowledge of MyPlate and the National School Lunch Program.
  10. Assist with getting items prepped, cooked and displayed for various catering functions.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.Ability to speak effectively before groups.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to perform basic arithmetical calculation.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Exhibit qualities of maturity and organizational ability and reflect a spirit of cooperation in working with staff and school administration. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community.Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form.Ability to perform duties with awareness of all School Corporation requirements and policies.
