GENERAL SUMMARY & SCOPE

The Lead Cashier (LC) is responsible for the efficiency of guest transactions and maintaining excellence in cashwrap standards, including cleanliness and overall aesthetics. Experienced in cashiering, the LC assists in the training of new cashiers and the cross-training of other associates, demonstrating the ability to proactively collaborate, lead, and influence peers. This position is responsible for driving loyalty results, including credit, through a focus on performance (sales, guest experience, and loyalty), people (guest service, and associate training and development), and process (operating procedures and compliance standards with an emphasis on cashiering). The Lead Cashier supports the leadership team with open and close register functions, associate exit inspections, and cashier chat in/outs, requiring a passion for the guest experience, process excellence, and delivering exceptional results by engaging every guest on the benefits of our Loyalty Life Cycle and positively contributing to goal achievement.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The LC is a champion of Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision, and values, demonstrating them skillfully and consistently by performing the following duties and responsibilities:

Performance
  • Contribute to meeting or exceeding store goals related to retail and service sales, omni-channel, guest loyalty (including credit), and retail shrink as set by Ulta Beauty.
  • Ensure each guest receives exceptional service by providing a guest-friendly environment, greeting and engaging each guest, personalizing service to their needs, and recommending Ulta Beauty products and/or services.
  • Handle sales, refunds, and exchanges courteously.
  • Assist guests with makeup applications, skincare analysis, and product demonstrations to drive sales and enhance the guest experience.
  • Book appointments and support the execution of services and in-store events to deliver an outstanding guest experience while meeting sales goals.
  • Maintain the replenishment, organization, and cleanliness of all cashwrap displays, supplies, and impulse fixtures to ensure guest readiness at all times.
  • Ensure prompt, regular attendance.
People
  • Support an inclusive environment that fosters teamwork and supports guests and colleagues.
  • Assist in cashier chat ins and outs, and associate exit inspections as needed.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, products, and services, and be knowledgeable about their ingredients and benefits.
  • Promote the guest loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta Beauty app, to guests and team members, and drive loyalty and credit goals.
  • Help train new cashiers and cross-train other associates in cashiering.
  • Engage and influence peers to achieve productivity and performance goals.
  • Ensure cashier accountability in delivering a personalized brand experience and following Ulta Beauty’s systems.
  • Participate in ongoing training to support professional development and sales performance.
  • Collaborate with store teams to grow the business.
Process
  • Ensure compliance with Ulta Beauty’s policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Adhere to the dress code.
  • Complete all transactions accurately, including returns and associate transactions, and control cash/media according to policies.
  • Perform register opening and closing functions as directed.
  • Maintain store standards and cleanliness throughout the store, including at the cashwrap and in common areas.
  • Protect company assets and minimize loss through adherence to operational standards.
  • Perform other operational tasks as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • High school diploma preferred.

Experience

  • At least 2 years of relevant work experience or equivalent education and experience preferred.
  • Ability to delegate, multi-task, and problem-solve.
  • Passion for guest service and sales.
  • Experience addressing guest concerns professionally.
  • Proven sales exceeding and new hire training experience.

Skills

  • Proficiency with POS systems and Apple devices.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and teamwork.
  • Ability to build customer relationships and work under pressure.
SPECIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • Flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be 18 years or older.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Mobility and physical activity throughout the store.
  • Lifting up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to handle objects and perform physical tasks during shift.
