GENERAL SUMMARY & SCOPE

The Lead Cashier (LC) is responsible for the efficiency of guest transactions and maintaining excellence in cashwrap standards, including cleanliness and overall aesthetics. Experienced in cashiering, the LC assists in training new cashiers and cross-training other associates. This role involves proactively collaborating, leading, and influencing peers. The position focuses on driving loyalty results, including credit, through performance (sales, guest experience, and loyalty), people (guest service, and associate training and development), and process (operating procedures and compliance standards with an emphasis on cashiering). The Lead Cashier supports the leadership team with register functions, associate exit inspections, and cashier chat ins/outs. A passion for the guest experience, process excellence, and delivering exceptional results by engaging every guest on the benefits of our Loyalty Life Cycle is essential, as is contributing positively to team goals.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The LC demonstrates Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision, and values consistently by performing the following duties and responsibilities, along with any other assigned projects:

Performance
  • Contribute to meeting or exceeding store goals related to retail and service sales, omni-channel, guest loyalty (including credit), and retail shrinkage.
  • Ensure each guest receives exceptional service by providing a guest-friendly environment, greeting and engaging guests, personalizing service, and recommending products and/or services.
  • Handle sales, refunds, and exchanges courteously.
  • Assist guests with makeup applications, skincare analysis, and product demonstrations to enhance sales and guest experience.
  • Book appointments and support in-store events that deliver outstanding guest experiences while meeting sales targets.
  • Maintain replenishment, organization, and cleanliness of all cashwrap displays and supplies to ensure guest readiness.
  • Ensure prompt, regular attendance.
People
  • Support an inclusive environment for teammates and guests.
  • Assist leadership with cashier chat ins/outs and associate exit inspections.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, products, and services to better serve guests.
  • Promote the guest loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta Beauty app, to guests and team members.
  • Help train new cashiers and cross-train associates in cashiering.
  • Engage and influence peers to achieve high performance.
  • Drive cashier accountability in delivering a personalized brand experience and following Ulta Beauty’s systems.
  • Participate in ongoing training to enhance professional development and sales skills.
  • Collaborate with store team to grow the business.
Process
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Adhere to dress code.
  • Complete all transactions accurately, including returns and associate transactions, and control cash/media according to policies.
  • Perform register opening and closing functions as directed.
  • Maintain store cleanliness and standards throughout the store.
  • Protect assets and minimize loss through adherence to standards and safety protocols.
  • Perform other operational tasks as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • High school diploma preferred.

Experience

  • 2 years of relevant experience or equivalent education and experience preferred.
  • Ability to delegate, multi-task, and problem-solve.
  • Passion for guest service and sales.
  • Experience in addressing guest concerns professionally.
  • Proven sales achievement and training experience.

Skills

  • Proficiency with POS systems and Apple devices.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to build customer relationships.
  • Adaptability and good judgment under pressure.
SPECIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • Flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be 18 or older.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Mobility and physical activities during shifts, including lifting up to 25 lbs.
