GENERAL SUMMARY & SCOPE
The Lead Cashier (LC) is responsible for the efficiency of guest transactions and maintaining excellence in cashwrap standards, including cleanliness and overall aesthetics. Experienced in cashiering, the LC assists in training new cashiers and cross-training associates, demonstrating proactive collaboration, leadership, and influence. This position drives loyalty results, including credit, through performance, people, and process focus. The Lead Cashier supports the leadership team with register functions, associate exit inspections, cashier chat ins/outs, and requires a passion for guest experience, process excellence, and delivering results by engaging guests in the Loyalty Life Cycle to achieve goals.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The LC embodies Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision, and values, performing the following duties and all other assigned tasks:
Performance
- Contribute to meeting or exceeding store goals related to retail and service sales, omni-channel, guest loyalty (including credit), and retail shrink.
- Ensure exceptional guest service by creating a friendly environment, greeting and engaging guests, personalizing service, and recommending products/services.
- Handle sales, refunds, and exchanges courteously.
- Assist guests with makeup applications, skincare analysis, and product demonstrations to enhance sales and experience.
- Book appointments and support in-store events to deliver outstanding guest experiences and meet sales targets.
- Maintain and organize cashwrap displays, supplies, and impulse fixtures for guest readiness.
- Maintain prompt and regular attendance.
People
- Support an inclusive environment for teammates and guests.
- Assist leadership with cashier chat ins/outs and associate exit inspections.
- Stay informed about industry trends, products, and services, and communicate their benefits to guests.
- Promote the guest loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta Beauty app, creating excitement and accountability towards store goals.
- Train new cashiers and cross-train associates in cashiering.
- Engage and influence peers to achieve high productivity and performance.
- Ensure cashier accountability in delivering the Ulta Beauty brand experience and following systems prompts.
- Participate in ongoing training to enhance professional development and sales skills.
- Collaborate with store team to grow the business.
Process
- Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and standards.
- Follow dress code requirements.
- Complete transactions accurately, including returns and media control, per policies.
- Perform register open/close functions as directed.
- Maintain store standards and cleanliness, including at the cashwrap, salesfloor, and other areas.
- Protect assets and minimize loss through adherence to standards and safety protocols.
- Perform other operational tasks as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- High school diploma preferred.
Experience
- 2+ years relevant experience or equivalent education and experience preferred.
- Ability to delegate, multitask, and resolve problems.
- Passion for guest service and sales.
- Experience handling guest concerns professionally.
- Proven sales achievement and training skills.
Skills
- Proficient with POS systems and basic technology.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and teamwork.
- Ability to build customer relationships.
- React well under pressure, exercise good judgment, and adapt flexibly.
SPECIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be 18+ to hold the Lead Cashier role.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Mobility throughout the store during shifts.
- Frequent physical activity including bending, lifting up to 25 lbs., and reaching.
