Job summary

Omni William Penn Hotel in downtown Pittsburgh seeks a Lead Carpenter to maintain our historic property and support the Engineering Services team. You will oversee work orders, supervise carpenters, and ensure safe, high quality repairs across guest areas and facilities.

Candidates should have strong carpentry experience, the ability to read blueprints, and a commitment to safety. This role involves climbing, lifting, and operating hand tools in a hotel environment, with opportunities for growth

Position: Lead Carpenter

Department: Engineering Services

Purpose: To ensure a safe, efficient, and well-maintained hotel environment.

Reports to: Director of Engineering Services/Assistant Director of Engineering Services

Essential Functions:

• Oversee and assign work orders as needed based on Hotel's repair requests.
• Assist and train carpenters in repairs as needed.
• Oversee and inspect the carpenter's portion of the CARE rooms process.
• Maintain all public areas and guestrooms on an on-going basis (corner guards, locks, windows, doors, furniture.)
• Keep the hotel decor in good condition.
• Clean all work areas after completing job.
• Fill out daily work orders.
• Have the knowledge and ability to use the proper equipment and tools.
• Have a thorough understanding of Omni's fire alarm procedures and other emergencies.
• Have a thorough understanding of Omni Hotels rules and regulations.

Hotel Specific Essential Functions:

• Provide service per request on BEO
• Maintain Hard Key & Lock System (BEST)

Tools and Equipment:

• Telephone, pen/pencil, photo-copying machine,

Working Environment:

• Interior of hotel, in all areas of the hotel. Exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures.
• Exterior of hotel with exposure to weather conditions.
• Exposure to various hazardous chemicals.

Physical Job Requirements (for essential functions only)

Lifting/Pushing/Pulling/ Carrying

• Frequent lifting, pushing, pulling and carrying required frequently to respond to requests for service and repairs anywhere in hotel or in parking lot

Bending/Kneeling

• Frequent bending and/or kneeling required to inspect and repair

Mobility

• 100% mobility required - must respond quickly to emergency

Continuous Standing

• No continuous standing

Climbing

• Stairs - up to approximately 90 steps 20% of each day (approximately 8 hours)
• Ladder - up to approximately 8 feet 10% of each day (approximately 8 hours)

Driving

• No driving required

Work Environment

• Inside 90% of work period (approximately 8 hours)
• Outside 10% of work period (approximately 8 hours)
• 5 -95 degrees

Hearing/Vision/Speech/Literacy

• Hearing is critical (To hear portable radio, fire alarms, machinery, guests)
• Vision is critical (Inspect, maintain equipment)
• Speech is critical (Must respond on portable radio to base station, guests)
• Literacy is critical (Maintain logs and records)

Chemical/Agents Used

• Some use of paint, pool chemicals, oil, pesticides

Protective Clothing

• Safety shoes required
