Job summary

University of Colorado Boulder’s Division of Public Safety (DPS) Events seeks an Assistant Director to oversee campus special events operations, planning, and security coordination. You will supervise staff, coordinate with campus partners, and ensure compliance with laws and university policies.

The role entails threat and vulnerability assessments, staff credentialing, incident planning, and training, reporting to the Police Commander over Public Safety Events.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or higher in emergency management, public safety, or related field.
• At least 5 years in event operations, public safety, or emergency management.
• Experience developing Event Action Plans (EAPs) and emergency response plans.
• Experience conducting risk, threat, or vulnerability assessments.
• At least 1 year of supervisory experience over staff or multi‑agency teams.
• FEMA ICS/NIMS courses or ability to obtain within 6 months.

Responsibilities

• Supervise security programs and staff, coordinating event staffing and compliance.
• Provide operational leadership for campus special events' security functions.
• Develop credential verification for personnel involved in events.
• Create and manage Event Action Plans and security staffing matrices.
• Provide ongoing training on laws, policies, and guidelines.
