Job summary

Harmons Grocery is seeking an experienced Pastry Chef/Cake Decorator to maintain quality pastries and cakes while mentoring other bakery staff. You will prepare, bake, decorate, and label products, manage inventory, and ensure exceptional customer service in a fast-paced environment.

The role requires open availability including weekends and holidays, and a strong focus on adherence to recipes, safety, and cleanliness standards within Harmons’ bakery operations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• 1 year bakery experience preferred.
• Current Food Handler’s Permit.
• Ability to read and follow a recipe.
• Basic math skills used to half or double recipes.
• Enjoys working with, handling, and eating cake and pastry products.
• Knowledge of mixing, cooking, baking, and assembling procedures and times for pastries.
• Ability to interpret policies and procedures.
• Excellent organization and planning skills.
• Strong communication skills for customer and team interactions.
• Ability to handle conflict professionally and constructively.
• Willingness to accept feedback and contribute to team success.
• Decision making with integrity and initiative.

Responsibilities

• Maintain quality standards and product levels for all bakery pastry and cake items.
• Train other Pastry Chefs and Cake Decorators.
• Prepare, bake, assemble, decorate, and label pastries and cakes.
• Manage ordering, receiving, and storage of bakery products.
• Monitor production and inventory levels to minimize waste.
• Provide excellent customer service at all times.
• Follow production sheets and ensure correct ingredient quantities.
• Write production sheets for team members and mentors.
• Collaborate with Store Director and Bakery Manager on schedules and tasks.
• Maintain clean, sanitized work areas meeting company standards.
