Job description

Lead Business Analyst

Location : DMV Area - Hybrid

The Opportunity

Strategio is supporting an enterprise client responsible for automated surveillance systems that identify potential violations of financial regulations across multiple asset classes.

You will bridge regulatory requirements and the technical implementation of surveillance logic—analyzing patterns, investigating discrepancies, and ensuring surveillance results are accurate, complete, and defensible. You will also use generative AI to accelerate analysis, documentation, code comprehension, and workflow automation while validating all outputs for regulatory accuracy.

About You:

You are an experienced Business Analyst with a strong combination of capital markets knowledge, technical analysis, and regulatory understanding. You can investigate complex datasets, interpret source code and processing pipelines, and translate technical logic into clear business documentation.

You work confidently across regulatory, business, data, and engineering teams and are comfortable leading complex analysis with limited direction. You use AI as a practical productivity tool while maintaining strong human oversight, traceability, and quality standards.

As a Strategio Lead Business Analyst you will:
  • Analyze, validate, and enhance automated surveillance patterns across financial products and regulatory domains
  • Translate regulatory rules and business needs into BRDs, functional requirements, process flows, and knowledge documentation
  • Investigate data discrepancies, unexpected alerts, reconciliation issues, and incomplete surveillance results
  • Reverse-engineer source code, data pipelines, and business logic to document how surveillance patterns operate
  • Validate exception generation, scoring, aggregation, and reconciliation processes
  • Partner with regulatory, business, data, and engineering teams to resolve gaps and improve surveillance coverage
  • Lead UAT efforts, including scenario design, results validation, defect analysis, and stakeholder sign-off
  • Use generative AI and coding assistants to accelerate analysis, documentation, code interpretation, and workflow automation
  • Validate AI-generated outputs for accuracy, completeness, traceability, and regulatory alignment
  • Present findings, risks, and recommendations clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders
Core Skills
  • Experience in financial regulatory technology, surveillance systems, or capital markets data analysis
  • Strong SQL skills for large-scale data analysis on distributed platforms
  • Proficiency in Python for analysis, automation, and tool development
  • Experience interpreting source code, data-processing pipelines, and complex business logic
  • Strong Business Analyst capabilities across requirements analysis, BRD development, process mapping, gap analysis, and UAT
  • Advanced spreadsheet skills for business and operational analysis
  • Strong investigative and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently
  • Excellent written and verbal communication across business and technical audiences
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Computer Science, or a related field
Nice-to-Haves:
  • Knowledge of SEC rules, regulatory reporting, and U.S. market structure
  • Experience with equities, ETFs, options, or other financial market data
  • Familiarity with surveillance pattern architectures and alert-generation workflows
  • Experience with distributed query engines and big data platforms
  • Practical experience using generative AI or AI coding assistants in production workflows
  • Familiarity with project management and documentation platforms, including APIs
  • Experience with source control and release branch workflows
  • An advanced degree in a relevant field
