Job summary

Champaign Unit 4 Schools is seeking a licensed school bus driver to provide safe, reliable transportation for students. The role emphasizes safety, punctuality and positive interaction with students and staff.

Applicants must be at least 21, hold or obtain a Class B CDL with a school bus permit, maintain a clean driving record, pass drug/alcohol screenings and a physical, and complete required training. Two years of prior bus driving experience is strongly preferred.

  • Must pass the annually required drug and alcohol screenings and physical examination.

  • Possess good human relations and communication skills.
  • Minimum of two years experience as a schoolbusdriver (strongly preferred).

Qualifications

  • Must attend required course(s) of instruction for schoolbusdrivers
  • Possess good human relations and communication skills
  • Must have a minimum of two years experience as a schoolbusdriver(strongly preferred)
Compensation
  • The hourly wage for this position is determined based on the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Champaign Educational Support Professionals, which is available on our website. The District gives experienced employees up to 20 years of experience credit for service outside the District if it is directly related to their position. 100% of an employee's contributions to IMRF is currently paid by the Board of Education. The Board also pays 100% of employee-only health and term life insurance. There is a minimal employee cost for vision insurance. Dental is also available at competitive rates to interested employees. There are opportunities for employees to earn additional compensation during the regular school year and in the summer.
  • Bus Drivershired after September 12, 2023 are eligible for a $2,500 Sign-On Bonuspaid as follows:
    • $750 will be paid after the employeehas worked 25 days as a licensed Driver
    • $750 will be paid after Day 50 as a licensed Driver
    • $1,000 will be paid after Day 100 as a licensed Driver

  • This position will remain posted until the hiring process is complete; however, interviews may be conducted after April 9, 2026, so interested applicants should submit their materials ASAP to ensure consideration.
  • The candidate hired into this position is guaranteed a minimum of 8.0 hours per day. All work in excess of forty hours per week is paid at time and a half of the normal pay rate.
  • Applicants who do not currently hold a VALID School Bus Driver permit should not apply for this position.
