Job summary

AFRY USA is seeking a Senior Building Systems Mechanical Engineer to lead the design of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection for new facilities and upgrades. The role includes supervision of staff, coordination with multi‑discipline teams, and ensuring designs meet codes and client requirements.

The candidate will manage project scope, deadlines, and client interactions while delivering high‑quality drawings, specifications, and reports. An in-office presence is required in Birmingham, AL.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in architectural engineering or mechanical engineering.
• Minimum 10 years of Building Mechanical Engineering experience.
• Professional Engineer licensed.
• Knowledge of HVAC, Plumbing, and Fire Protection codes (IBC, IMC, IPC, IFC, ASHRAE, ASPE).
• Experience with Revit, BIM, AutoCAD, Navisworks, Bluebeam and Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

• Lead engineering for projects, guiding quality, budget, and schedule from concept to construction.
• Prepare proposals and define project scope and activities.
• Design and review building mechanical systems and components for multi‑discipline projects.
• Mentor junior staff and ensure high‑quality construction drawings and reports.
• Visit project sites to collect data and manage client relationships.
