Job description

About the Role

Our client, a forward-thinking architectural and engineering consultancy, is seeking a Lead Building Performance Analyst to join their innovative team, based in Randburg but operating with a fully remote structure. This crucial role focuses on optimizing building design and operation for energy efficiency, sustainability, and occupant comfort. You will lead the analysis and simulation efforts, leveraging advanced software tools to model and assess building performance from early design stages through to post-occupancy evaluation. The ideal candidate possesses a strong technical background in building science, thermodynamics, energy modeling, and sustainable design principles. As a remote team member, you will collaborate closely with architects, engineers, and project managers across various locations, contributing to high-performance building projects. This is an exceptional opportunity for an expert analyst to drive sustainable design practices and make a significant impact on the built environment, working from the comfort of their chosen location, supporting projects that may include those in the Randburg vicinity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the building performance analysis process, including energy modeling, daylight simulation, thermal comfort analysis, and CFD.
  • Develop and implement performance targets and metrics for projects.
  • Collaborate with design teams to integrate performance considerations from concept through construction documentation.
  • Utilize advanced simulation software (e.g., EnergyPlus, IESVE, DesignBuilder, CFD tools) for analysis.
  • Interpret simulation results and provide actionable recommendations to optimize building design.
  • Conduct post-occupancy evaluations to assess actual building performance against design goals.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies, standards, and best practices in building performance and sustainability.
  • Prepare technical reports, presentations, and documentation for clients and project teams.
  • Mentor junior analysts and contribute to the firm's knowledge base in building science.
  • Ensure compliance with green building rating systems (e.g., Green Star SA, LEED) where applicable.
Requirements
  • Master's or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Building Science, Architectural Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in building performance analysis and energy modeling.
  • Expert proficiency in energy simulation software (e.g., EnergyPlus, IESVE) and daylighting tools.
  • Strong understanding of building physics, HVAC systems, and renewable energy technologies.
  • Experience with Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is highly advantageous.
  • Knowledge of green building standards and certifications (Green Star SA, LEED).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and quantitative skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, particularly for remote team interactions.
  • Ability to work independently and manage complex analytical tasks.
  • Relevant professional certifications are a plus.
Benefits
  • Highly competitive salary and potential for performance bonuses.
  • Fully remote work arrangement offering significant flexibility.
  • Opportunity to work on cutting-edge sustainable building projects.
  • Continuous professional development and learning opportunities.
  • Be at the forefront of building performance innovation.
