Job summary

City of Whittier seeks a Senior Building Inspector/Plans Examiner to lead complex inspections and plan reviews for residential, commercial, and industrial projects. You will interpret codes, supervise staff, prepare reports, and coordinate with other departments to ensure compliance and safety.

Requires ICC Building Inspection and Plans Examiner certificates, two years as a senior inspector and two years in plan checking, plus high school diploma with college coursework in civil engineering,

Qualifications

• Two years of progressively responsible inspection experience as a building inspector and two years in plan checking.
• High school diploma or equivalent with college coursework in civil engineering, architecture, or building inspection.
• Possession of or ability to obtain a valid California driver\'s license.
• ICC Building Inspection Certificate and ICC Plans Examiner Certificate are required or obtainable.

Responsibilities

• Reviews and directs inspections of residential, commercial, and industrial construction to ensure safety and code compliance.
• Interprets and enforces building, zoning, and related regulations; approves plans and permits.
• Coordinates with applicants and other departments; maintains records and prepares reports.
• Supervises staff and may act as division manager in absence of the Building Services Manager.
