Job summary

CBRE seeks a Senior Building Engineer in Kansas City to maintain HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems across a 70K sq ft campus. You’ll perform repairs, monitor operations, and mentor others while applying codes and safety standards.

You’ll lead outside contractors, develop preventive maintenance and energy management programs, review inspections, and support CBRE’s safety and reliability goals. On-site hours typical; on-call rotation possible.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent with 2+ years related experience.
  • Universal CFC certification.
  • Additional certifications in HVAC/electrical/mechanical or related areas preferred.
  • Ability to meet physical requirements and lift 50 lbs+.
  • Proficient in MS Office; CMMS experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assign work orders, estimate time/materials for repairs.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and tools.
  • Perform maintenance/repairs on mechanical, plumbing, fire life-safety, and control systems.
  • Lead outside contractors and ensure compliance with codes and safety.

About The Role

Join CBRE as a Senior Building Engineer, where your expertise in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems keeps our facilities running efficiently. You’ll perform repairs, observe building operations, and apply specialized knowledge to the site all with the autonomy to make a real impact. This job is part of the Maintenance, Engineering and Technical Services job function.

This role is on site with one of our premiere Clients in the KC area.

70K sq ft, 11-acre campus - with combined office space & call center environment. This role will be responsible for light plumbing, light electrical, light carpentry as well as some monitoring and testing of critical equipment. Having an understanding of UL regulations, critical facility regulations, testing and logging of batteries and UPS systems would be helpful. The hours will be roughly 7:00 am-3:30pm - 8:00 am - 4:30 pm. Monday - Friday with after hours on call. (Seldom needed on site for on call)

What You’ll Do
  • Assign work orders and estimate the time and materials needed to complete repairs. Maintain an inventory of adequate supplies and tools.
  • Perform maintenance and repairs to mechanical, plumbing, structural, furniture, fire, life safety, and control systems. Align with all applicable codes, regulations, governmental agency, and company directives related to building operations and work safety.
  • Develop an energy management program. Ensure all systems operate in the most efficient manner.
  • Lead all aspects of and inspect the work performed by outside contractors.
  • Respond to common inquiries or complaints from clients, co-workers, and/or supervisors.
  • Advise the implementation of a preventive maintenance program to ensure that building machinery and systems meet or exceed their rated life. Perform repairs and emergency maintenance as needed.
  • Review and sign off on inspections of building systems including fire alarms, HVAC, and plumbing to ensure the operation of equipment is within design capabilities and achieves environmental conditions prescribed by the client.
  • Apply knowledge to seek and develop new, better methods for accomplishing both individual and department objectives.
  • Bring deep expertise in your field and broad knowledge across teams to mentor others, lead by example, and champion CBRE’s RISE values—while influencing senior partners and guiding teams toward innovative solutions.
  • Give to new products, processes, standards, and/or operational plans in support of achieving functional goals.
What you’ll need
  • High School Diploma, GED, or trade school diploma or equivalent experience with 2+ years of related experience. (Exposure to UL regs would be helpful)
  • Universal CFC certification
  • Additional certification in one or more of the following: HVAC, electrical, mechanical, HVAC and refrigeration systems, process controls, mechanical power transmissions, painting, plumbing, carpentry or engine repair are preferred.
  • Meet the physical requirements of this role including stooping, standing, walking, climbing stairs/ladders, and the ability to lift/carry heavy loads of 50 lbs. or more.
  • Microsoft Office knowledge such as Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and CMMS experience
