Job summary

City of Omaha is seeking a qualified candidate to lead the Building and Development division within the Planning Department. The role requires directing professional and technical staff across plan review, code development, permit issuance, contractor licensing, and inspections.

The ideal candidate holds a PE/Architect license (Nebraska) or ICC master code certification, with at least five years in building plans/design and a minimum of three years in a supervisory role.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering with structural or mechanical emphasis and 5 years of progressively responsible experience in work involving building plans and designs, building structural design, construction and inspection.
• At least 3 years of progressively responsible experience as a manager or supervisor in permits and inspection in a state, county, or municipality.
• Must be licensed as a professional engineer or architect in Nebraska or ICC Master Code Professional or Certified Building Official at time of application.

Responsibilities

• Oversees the daily operation of the Building and Development division in the Planning Department.
• Manages the annual budget and expenditures of the division.
• Directs enforcement and interpretation of city codes related to building, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and related permits.
