Job summary

City of Omaha seeks a Deputy Planning Director - Permits & Inspections to oversee the Building and Development division within the Planning Department, supervising professional and technical staff and reporting to the Planning Director.

The role requires a Bachelor's in engineering with relevant emphasis and 5+ years in building plans/design, including 3+ years in a managerial/supervisory capacity in permits and inspections; Nebraska PE/Architect license or ICC Master Code Professional is

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering with structural/mechanical emphasis in related fields.
• Five years of progressively responsible experience in building plans/design, with at least three years in a management/supervisory role in permits/inspections.

Responsibilities

• Oversees the daily operation of the Planning Department's Building and Development division.
• Manages the annual budget and expenditures for the division.
• Administers permit issuance, inspection, plan review, contractor licensing, and computer technology functions.
• Directs enforcement and interpretation of building codes and related ordinances.
• Supervises subordinate staff including assigning work and disciplinary actions.
