The Claremont Colleges Services is seeking a Lead Building Attendant to oversee custodial operations across TCCS facilities, ensuring clean, sanitary, and safe environments for students, staff, and visitors.
As lead for Building Attendants, you will coordinate schedules, train new staff, conduct inspections, and respond to safety concerns while maintaining high standards of cleanliness and consistent daily operations on site in Claremont, CA.
The Lead Building Attendant is responsible for maintaining clean, sanitary, and safe facilities for students, staff, and the public. This position aims to minimize property damage, loss, and potential liability, ensuring that tasks are completed safely, properly, and on time. The Lead Building Attendant also oversees and supports assigned building attendants in their duties. Assist the supervisor in administration of daily operations, and monitors work in progress by applying advance knowledge in all phases of cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting processes and floor care techniques. This role is distinguished by the following key responsibilities: general cleaning and maintenance at all TCCS sites, leading other building attendants, and performing a full range of custodial and maintenance tasks. The Lead Building Attendant is accountable for the cleanliness of all TCCS buildings and facilities, carrying out basic maintenance duties, and responding to the needs of staff and students.
The following are the fundamental duties and responsibilities of this position which the incumbent must be able to perform to fulfill the purpose and requirements of this position.

Education: A high school diploma or the equivalent.
Experience: Four to five years of relevant supervisory experience, including at least one year of experience in custodial or janitorial assignments in an educational environment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: In-depth knowledge of proper janitorial/custodial techniques. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions in English. Ability to work productively and effectively without continuous supervision. Be available for overtime work and to be on-call. Be able to work in a safe manner and comply with all applicable safety rules and procedures. Professional communication skills with a diverse population of team members, contract personnel, and other internal and external contacts. Ability to work productively as a member of a team. Demonstrated commitment and ability to provide quality customer service. Present a neat and professional appearance and be capable of performing all tasks and presenting oneself in a manner that reflects favorably on CFS and TCCS, and of promoting the interests of these organizations throughout The Claremont Colleges and TCCS. Energy and stamina to successfully perform the physical requirements of the position. Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time every workday. Ability to climb ladders up to 3 feet, lift and carry up to 50 pounds and team lift. Reach overhead and outward, bend, stoop, twist, kneel, and work in uncomfortable positions. Ability to work indoors and occasionally outdoors in a range of weather conditions.
Other: A valid driver’s license and a driving record acceptable to TCC’s automobile liability insurance provider. A post-offer, pre-employment physical exam showing ability to safely perform the physical requirement of this position.
Preferred Qualifications: Five years of experience providing oversight/supervision of staff in a similar industry.
Physical Requirements: A valid driver’s license and satisfactory results on the following post-offer pre-employment driving record check. This position requires the ability to perform physically demanding work on a continuous basis and involves prolonged standing and walking, frequent movement into varying body positions, and regular climbing of ladders, stairs, scaffolding, or similar structures. The role routinely requires lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling materials, equipment, and objects weighing up to 50 pounds, as well as working in indoor and outdoor environments under varying weather and environmental conditions, including noisy, confined, elevated, or low-ventilation spaces. Employees must be able to safely operate vehicles, equipment, or machinery, including street-legal golf carts and company vehicles, communicate effectively in person and by phone or other devices, read and interpret printed or electronic materials, and occasionally perform computer-based work requiring repetitive hand and wrist movement. Required safety practices include wearing designated uniforms, non-slip or work shoes, and appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
Must be able to work the assigned work scheduled hours. The regular hours for this full-time position are evening shift from 1:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday, with a half-hour meal break. Must be available and willing to work any shift assigned (day, night, and weekends). May be required to work on holidays, weekends, and/or evening hours. Regular hours or location may vary due to the needs of the organization or business unit.
Pay: The pay range for this position is $24-$25.50 per hour depending on experience.
