Job summary

University of Washington’s Finance, Planning, and Budgeting (FPB) seeks an Assistant Director of Financial Shared Services to help build and operate a new shared services organization. This role focuses on delivering responsive financial services that reduce administrative burden for faculty, researchers, students, and staff.

Based in Seattle, the position directs multiple hubs, leads process design, governance, and data usage, and partners with academic and central offices to improve service

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Public Administration, Organizational Leadership, or a related field and 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in financial/shared services leadership.
• Experience directing complex multi‑unit operations with accountability for service quality, capacity, internal controls, resource allocation, and customer outcomes.
• Ability to translate strategy into implementation, lead change, and make sound decisions in evolving environments.
• Experience using financial and operational data to assess performance and prioritize work.

Responsibilities

• Provide operational leadership and ensure timely, compliant services across hubs.
• Translate strategy into concrete implementation plans and service standards; manage risk and escalation.
• Coach and develop managers and staff, fostering an inclusive, accountable culture.
• Build trusted partnerships with faculty, staff, and central offices; communicate with diverse financial audiences.
• Use Workday Finance and data to improve workflows, transparency, and customer experience; strengthen internal controls.
