Job summary

Summit Technology Group in Keego Harbor, MI, seeks a Senior Tower Technician to lead on-site tower projects, ensuring safety, planning, and technical execution for AM, FM, and TV towers. You will install, inspect, and maintain equipment while coordinating with engineers and traveling regionally for multi-day assignments.

Responsibilities include requisitioning hardware, maintaining safety gear, and mentoring junior climbers, with occasional studio and transmitter site work.

Qualifications

• 5+ years tower climbing experience, 3+ years in broadcast applications.
• Knowledge of broadcast antenna systems and transmission lines.
• RF safety protocols per OET-65 and ANSI/IEEE C95.1-2019.
• Rigging, hoisting, and tower rescue procedures familiarity.
• NATE or ComTrain Tower Climber/Rescue cert.
• OSHA 10/30-hour construction safety card.
• Valid driver’s license and DOT medical exam ability.
• Willingness to travel regionally for multi-day projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead field crews during climbs, rigging and installation.
• Install, remove, and align broadcast antennas and transmission lines.
• Conduct tower inspections, grounding audits, lighting maintenance, FDA/FCC compliance checks.
• Supervise safety, conduct tailgate meetings, ensure OSHA/ANSI compliance.
• Interpret drawings and manufacturer documentation for antenna systems.
• Troubleshoot RF transmission issues with sweep testers and analyzers.
• Prepare post-job reports and client sign-offs.
• Train and mentor junior climbers, enforce safety policies.
• Coordinate with Summit engineers on scheduling and logistics.
