Job summary

Hardesty & Hanover in New York City is seeking a Bridge Inspector to join the firm’s Asset Management team. This leadership role leads NBIS-compliant inspections and provides technical oversight for field teams serving NYSDOT, Port Authority, TBTA, NYCDOT, and other regional clients.

You will evaluate bridge conditions, prepare inspection reports, and ensure deliverables meet regulatory deadlines while advancing inspection technology like UAVs. A NY P.E. license and NBIS experience are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required in Civil or Structural Engineering or related field.
• Active New York Professional Engineer license required.
• Minimum three years of NBIS bridge inspection experience with Team Leader qualifications.
• FHWA/NHI bridge inspection training and refresher courses.
• Experience leading NBIS inspections for public agency clients.

Responsibilities

• Serve as qualified Bridge Inspector for NBIS inspections (routine, special, emergency).
• Lead and supervise field teams per NBIS, AASHTO, NYSDOT requirements.
• Conduct detailed field inspections of bridges, culverts, and related structures.
• Evaluate and document bridge conditions, ratings, and deficiencies.
• Prepare and review inspection documentation and reports.
• Oversee submission of NBIS data and repair/rehabilitation recommendations.
• Coordinate inspection logistics with teams, vendors, and traffic control.
• Communicate inspection findings and project status with clients and agency reps.
• Ensure deliverables are signed, sealed, and timely submitted.
• Maintain current NBIS knowledge; support UAV/digital modeling where applicable.
• Contribute technical input to proposals and client presentations.
