Job summary

Lead Structural Bridge Engineer | Virginia | Hybrid

We are seeking an experienced bridge/structures engineer to step into a lead role supporting transportation infrastructure projects across Virginia. This position offers a mix of technical leadership, project oversight, and client engagement while working on impactful bridge and highway structure designs.

Role Overview

The Lead Structural Bridge Engineer will oversee the design and delivery of multiple transportation structure projects from early-stage development through final construction documents. This individual will also mentor engineering staff and support project execution, quality control, and client coordination.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead structural design of bridges and transportation-related structures
• Manage project scope, schedule, budget, and technical deliverables
• Review and approve calculations, plans, specifications, and reports
• Provide technical direction and mentorship to engineering staff
• Coordinate with clients, agencies, and internal project teams
• Support proposal development and project pursuits
• Ensure compliance with applicable DOT and structural design standards
• Oversee preparation of final design packages and contract documents

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in structural bridge engineering
• PE license required
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (Structural focus preferred)
• Strong experience with steel and concrete bridge design
• Background working on DOT transportation projects preferred
• Experience producing contract plans, load ratings, and design reports
• Ability to lead multiple concurrent projects and teams
• Strong communication and client-facing skills
