Job summary

Electra in Manassas, VA, is hiring a Principal Battery Systems Engineer to own battery system development for the EL9, from requirements through FAA Part 23 certification and entry into service. Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field with 5+ years of relevant experience.
• Hands-on experience with lithium-based battery systems in aerospace or safety-critical domains.
• Knowledge of high-voltage power systems and thermal management, plus DO-311A/RTCA/DO-160 familiarity.
• Experience with requirements management tools (JAMA) and system modeling (MATLAB/Simulink).
• Familiarity with FAA/EASA Part 23 certification processes and regulatory requirements.
• Strong systems engineering principles, traceability, verification and validation.
• Supplier management and quality assurance experience.

Responsibilities

• Own battery system development from requirements through certification and in-service.
• Define system-level requirements, performance targets, and safety criteria for batteries.
• Manage battery system suppliers to mitigate risks and meet milestones.
• Support architecture trade studies, thermal strategies, and electrical interfaces.
• Lead integration with propulsion, electrical, and thermal systems; define installation and maintenance.
• Develop battery models for propulsion and aircraft systems cost models.
• Develop and execute verification and validation plans including tests and flights.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams for seamless integration and safety analyses.
• Interface with FAA/EASA regulators for Part 23 certification activities.
• Publish and maintain technical documents and certification artifacts.
