Job summary

GHD North America seeks a Lead — Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to drive storage growth in the U.S. and Canada. You bring deep command of utility‑scale standalone and hybrid assets and excel as a seller‑doer, coordinating with Wind and Transmission & Distribution leads for diverse delivery models.

Responsibilities include owning the regional BESS strategy, leading feasibility sizing, and building relationships with developers, utilities, IPPs, and financiers. Hybrid work model offered.

Qualifications

• 10–15 years in power systems or energy infra with 5+ years in BESS or hybrid storage.
• Experience in Owner’s/Independent Engineer roles and interconnection studies.
• Li‑ion BESS safety and NFPA 855 familiarity.

Responsibilities

• Own regional BESS strategy and go‑to‑market; oversee development stages.
• Lead feasibility sizing and microgrid/hybrid optimization studies.
• Build client relationships with developers, utilities, IPPs, financiers.
• Mentor cross‑regional team; use standardized tools and playbooks.

Who are we looking for?

GHD North America is recruiting a Lead — Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)to spearhead storage growth in theU.S.andCanada.
You bring deep technical command ofutility‑scale standaloneandhybrid (wind/solar + BESS)assets and thrive as aseller‑doer. You will coordinate execution withWindandTransmission and Distributionleads, and engagein a variety of delivery models on behalf of clients.

Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of duties and will see you involved in:

• Own the regionalBESS strategy and go‑to‑market; prioritize roles asOwner’s Engineer, Independent Engineerand technical due diligenceacross development and financing stages.
• Lead programs spanningscreening/feasibility,techno‑economic sizing and optimizationof microgrids/hybrids involving battery systems and interface with interconnection and power system studies
• Build client relationships withdevelopers, utilities/ISOs, IPPs and financiers; shapecapture plans and proposalswith Relationship Managers and Pursuit Leaders.
• Develop and mentor across‑regional team; implementstandardized tools/playbooksand leverageGHD Global Collaboration Centres toscale design and studies.

What you bring to the team:

• 10–15 years in power systems or energy infrastructure, with at least 5+ years in utility‑scale BESS or hybrid renewables + storage projects.
  Proven experience inOwner’s/Independent Engineer roles, interconnection studies, and EMS/SCADA integration. Familiarity withLi-ion BESS safety and fire protection standards (e.g., NFPA 855)required.
• Demonstrablepipeline development and captureperformance inhigh‑growth storagemarkets; fluency inhybrid dispatchandancillary servicesvalue‑stacks.

The successful candidate will also have to meet the following requirements:

• B.Eng./B.Sc. (electrical preferred)withP.Eng./PE(or eligibility); strong knowledge ofgrid codesandinterconnection standards.
• Ability to leadmulti‑disciplinary teamsacross geographies; excellentcommunication,proposal leadershipandclient stewardship.
