Job summary

General Motors is seeking an Advanced Battery Cell Design Engineer to shape next‑gen lithium‑ion and sodium‑ion cells for electrified vehicles. You will lead cell component design, performance optimization, and cross‑functional development with teams across R&D, Purchasing, and Manufacturing.

The role emphasizes DFSS, robust design, and data‑driven validation, with a focus on safety, scalability, and cost efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field.
  • 2+ years of engineering experience in product development, design release, or project management.
  • Knowledge of Lithium-ion and Sodium ion battery technologies (cells, modules, packs).
  • Familiarity with energy storage systems and vehicle electrification.
  • Experience with CAE tools and CAD manipulation.
  • Proven ability to manage complex, cross-functional projects.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design and layout of Li-ion and Na-ion cell components (cathodes, anodes, separators).
  • Develop and optimize cell performance requirements (electrical, thermal, mechanical).
  • Manage Pre-A and A sample development, testing, and validation.
  • Apply DFSS, robust design, reliability, and optimization.
  • Coordinate with GM departments and partners to meet milestones.
  • Lead risk management and cost-innovation strategies.
  • Maintain safety culture and document lessons learned.
