Job summary

Blitzoo is seeking a Lead Backend Engineer in Tampa, FL to own the backend for three live casino products. You will direct real-time gameplay layers, payments, sweepstakes, and analytics with a focus on architectural leadership.

You should bring 7+ years of production backend experience, deep Scala expertise, and a track record of end-to-end ownership in distributed systems. This role emphasizes architectural decisions and system health across the stack.

Qualifications

• 7+ years backend engineering with ownership of a production system at scale.
• Strong Scala experience, ideally Play Framework.
• Experience with actor-model or distributed-systems frameworks (Akka).
• Reactive database access patterns (ReactiveMongo or similar).
• Ownership of at least one payment or billing integration in production.
• Strong distributed-systems judgment on race conditions and rolling deploys.

Responsibilities

• System ownership across backend domains: game logic, promotions, payments, sweepstakes, accounts, admin, analytics.
• Lead real-time architecture for WebSocket/Akka-based gameplay and cluster.
• Own payments & compliance integrations (Paysafe, WorldPay, 3DS) with legal/cooperation.
• Steward shared infrastructure across three casino products with cross-product awareness.
• Own production health: deployments, cluster ops, incident response, postmortems.
• Provide technical mentorship: code reviews and raise engineering judgment bar.
• Absorb knowledge transfer and become the system's primary technical authority.
