Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Sr Staff AV Behavior Safety Engineer to lead strategy and execution for safety of SAE Level 3–4 autonomous driving systems powered by machine‑learned models. You will influence launch decisions for GM’s next generation of automated driving products and report into the AV Behavior Safety organization.

The role requires hands-on experience in end‑to‑end AV behavior development, validation across simulation and real roads, and collaboration across Software, AI/ML, and

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field.
• 6+ years in ML, engineering, data science, or related field.
• 6+ years in autonomous vehicle or robotics development.
• Experience leading safety in AV development.

Responsibilities

• Reference and interpret standards to define GM’s strategy for safe autonomous system development, validation and deployment.
• Own the behavior-focused portion of the ADS Safety Case, including key claims, sufficiency criteria, and evidence.
• Collaborate with Validation, Simulation, and Metrics teams to define the end-to-end AV behavior validation methodology.
• Set the strategy for how ODDs are broken down and validated per behavior and in aggregate.
• Define and run an assurance process to verify safety targets for launch readiness.
