Job summary

Symbotic seeks a Principal Autonomous Test Systems Engineer to architect the test data platform and automation framework for its AI-powered robotic systems. The role focuses on building end-to-end test ecosystems, including rigs, sensors, and R&D dashboards used by leadership.

You will define architecture, drive HW-in-the-loop integration, and mentor engineers while collaborating across remote teams from the US. The position offers a remote-first setup with periodic onsite work in Wilmington, MA.

Qualifications

• 12+ years in test automation, test infrastructure, or data platform engineering for physical, electromechanical, or robotic systems.
• A platform you built that teams outside your own adopted and scaled across multiple teams.
• Hands-on time with hardware: DAQ, sensors, test rigs, HIL, and system integration.
• Data modeling and dashboards used by non-engineers; time-series data familiarity.
• Proficiency in Go and/or Python, CI/CD, containers, AWS, and API design.
• Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.

Responsibilities

• Build executive test dashboards for leadership to view testing state across the company.
• Design and own a versioned test data schema used by all test teams; create pipelines from rigs, DAQ, automated runs, and manual campaigns.
• Architect the shared automation framework for orchestration, sequencing, result capture, and CI/CD.
• Incorporate physical test environments—rigs, fixtures, instrumentation, HW-in-the-loop—into automated end-to-end tests.
• Drive adoption with reference implementations, documentation, and hands-on enablement for teams.
• Equip reliability teams with clean, traceable data to model aging and wear of systems.
• Set roadmap, evaluate build vs. buy, and mentor senior engineers toward leading a small team.
