Job summary

Nuro is seeking a Senior Robotics Safety Engineer in Mountain View, CA. You will own the core safety protections logic within the autonomy stack and serve as the primary point of contact for real-world autonomy issues, including root-cause analysis and deployment of principled solutions.

You will lead a technical team, collaborate across AI modeling, eval, systems, and operations, and drive safety-critical motion planning for autonomous vehicles at scale.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience building safety-critical motion planning, decision making, trajectory optimization, or controls for real-world robots or autonomous vehicles.
• Strong C++ programming skills and solid math/physics foundations (geometry, optimization, probability; kinematics, dynamics).
• Experience taking robotics behavior from development into real-world operation.
• Leadership experience mentoring engineers and guiding technical projects.

Responsibilities

• Own the core logic and software implementation for robotics-based safety protections in the autonomy stack.
• Serve as the primary POC for solving real-world autonomy issues, including root-cause analysis, design, and deployment of principled solutions.
• Lead and grow a technical team dedicated to this problem area.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with AI modeling teams, eval, systems, and operations.
