Job summary

Johnson & Johnson is seeking a Principal Automation and Robotics Engineer for Spring House, PA. You will own the engineering strategy for the physical layer of autonomous discovery platforms, defining how robotics, controls, safety systems, and lab integration drive scalable AI-native automation.

Lead cross-functional teams, set technical governance, and guide modular, future-proof designs across SDL platforms. Advanced degrees and 10+ years in automation are highly valued.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or closely related field; advanced degree preferred.
• 10+ years in automation/robotics engineering; regulated or pharma setting preferred.
• Experience leading technical architecture for complex automated systems.
• Strong collaboration with scientists and IT/OT stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Define robotics and automation reference architecture for multi-workcell SDL platforms.
• Establish enterprise standards for interfaces, safety, maintenance, and lifecycle support.
• Lead design reviews for automation, facility integration, and readiness across programs.
• Define modular, scalable automation strategies to add new workcells without redesign.
• Serve as senior technical authority for robotics, controls, safety, and digital twin strategy.
• Mentor engineers and represent standards in governance and vendor discussions.
• Support technology evaluations, proof-of-concept studies, and audits.
• Travel may be required for vendor assessments and FAT/SAT activities.
