Job summary

UL Solutions is seeking a Functional Safety Expert with strong embedded software, electronic system, and safety development experience to train, advise, and support customers building safety-critical systems.

The role focuses on automotive functional safety with ISO 26262 and related standards, including safety work products, safety concepts, and safety analyses across vehicle platforms and power electronics. Travel to client sites may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering or related technical discipline.
• 5+ years of experience in automotive functional safety.
• Strong working knowledge of ISO 26262 and the functional safety lifecycle.
• Hands-on experience in embedded software, electronic system, hardware, or product development.
• Ability to independently lead technical discussions with customers and engineering teams.
• Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead development and review of functional safety work products in compliance with ISO 26262 and related standards.
• Create or support activities focused on ISO 26262 Parts 2/3/4/6
• Develop safety concepts and architectures for vehicle systems, electronic components, and software-controlled features.
• Define and decompose safety requirements based on system, hardware, and software architectures.
• Perform safety analyses including FMEA, FTA, DFA, STPA, and related methods.
• Support safety case development and evidence-based safety argumentation.
• Perform technical reviews, confirmation measures, compliance assessments, and safety evaluations.
• Lead technical workshops, training sessions, and safety gap assessments.
• Serve as a trusted technical advisor to customers, leading technical discussions and providing guidance on safety development activities.
• Support safety-related activities across embedded software, hardware, and system development efforts.
• Limited travel may be required to support client engagements, workshops, and assessments.
