Job summary

Open Systems Inc. in Dearborn, MI is seeking an experienced Product/Design & Release Engineer to support the design, development, validation, and release of automotive body and exterior components such as fixed glass, wipers, badges, and roof rails.

You will lead design reviews, manage validation activities, work with Teamcenter, Vismockup, AVBOM/FEDE BOM, and WERS, and coordinate supplier engagement from concept through Job 1.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Automotive, Product, Systems Engineering or related field.
• 3+ years automotive body/exterior engineering experience; 5+ years preferred.
• Automotive Design & Release experience with body or Class A exterior components.
• Strong CAD and automotive component development experience.
• Experience with Teamcenter, Vismockup, AVBOM/FEDE BOM, and WERS.
• Experience with validation, DVP, prototype development, supplier coordination, and manufacturing support.
• Injection-molded part design experience preferred/required for applicable components.
• Ford product development/system experience is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, development, validation, and release of automotive body/exterior components.
• Develop and release parts using Teamcenter, Vismockup, AVBOM/FEDE BOM, and WERS.
• Support the complete product lifecycle from concept and sourcing through prototype, validation, launch, and Job 1.
• Ensure designs meet WCR, Engineering Specifications, SDS, regulatory, manufacturing, and assembly requirements.
• Conduct technical design reviews, DVP/validation activities, durability and functional testing.
• Support supplier engagement, sourcing, cost reviews, and STA activities.
• Resolve technical and quality issues using 8D, Six Sigma, Lean, AIMS, and root-cause analysis.
• Support manufacturing/assembly plant implementation, sign-off, VQR, VRT, PVT, and engineering changes.
• Drive improvements in quality, cost, weight, performance, manufacturability, and assembly.
