Job summary

Thunderbird is seeking an Automation Integrator to design, program, and commission PLC/robotic systems across Metals manufacturing facilities in Oak Brook, IL. You will collaborate with Engineering, Maintenance, Operations, IT, and external integrators to boost safety, reliability, and productivity.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of experience in automation, strong PLC/HMI skills, and hands-on robotics expertise.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Automation Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, or related discipline (associate degree with substantial experience may be considered).
Minimum of five years programming, integrating, commissioning, and troubleshooting industrial automation in manufacturing.
Proficiency in PLC and HMI programming.
Hands-on experience with robotics and automated equipment.
Strong knowledge of servo motors, drives, motion control, sensors, and control panels.

Responsibilities

Design, program, configure, and troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, industrial computers, and control systems.
Develop and modify PLC programs using ladder logic, structured text, and function blocks.
Integrate automation equipment with robotics, machine vision, sensors, and plant software.
Program and optimize robotic systems for material handling, assembly, and packaging.
Configure and troubleshoot servo drives, VFDs, encoders, and motion-control networks.
Develop control-system architecture, electrical schematics, I/O lists, and design specs.
Ensure compliance with electrical, machinery-safety, and controls standards.
Lead automation projects from concept through production launch.
Provide advanced technical support and drive continuous improvement in uptime and productivity.
