Job summary

University of Colorado Boulder’s CIRES invites applications for a Research Scientist in atmospheric chemistry within NOAA's CSL in Boulder, CO. The role leads instrument development and field campaigns, integrating measurements with models to advance understanding of atmospheric chemistry.

The candidate will mentor junior researchers, collaborate across NOAA, CIRES, and partner institutions, and contribute to future research proposals and funding efforts.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in chemistry, atmospheric science, physics, engineering, or a related field.
• More than six years of postdoctoral research or equivalent in atmospheric science or related field.
• Proven experience with independent atmospheric research using instrumentation, observations, and models.

Responsibilities

• Lead development, characterization, and deployment of advanced atmospheric instrumentation (CIMS and related).
• Lead and participate in domestic and international airborne and ground-based field campaigns.
• Analyze multi-instrument datasets to study atmospheric chemistry and composition.
• Apply atmospheric models to interpret observations and improve model predictions.
• Publish findings and develop future research directions in collaboration with partners.
• Provide scientific leadership and mentorship to students and junior researchers.
