Job summary

The City of Fort Lauderdale seeks a senior accounting supervisor to oversee financial reporting, CAFR preparation, and ledger controls within the Accounting and Financial Reporting Division. You will supervise staff, coordinate year-end close, and support audits and city-wide projects while applying new accounting standards.

Required: a bachelor’s degree in accounting, 5 years of professional accounting, 2 years supervisory, municipal accounting preferred; CPA/CGFO/CPFO/CGFM credentials are

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in accounting required.
• Five (5) years of progressively responsible professional accounting and fiscal management experience.
• Three (3) years in municipal accounting and auditing.
• Two (2) years supervisory experience.
• Master’s degree may substitute for one year of experience, with caveats.
• Veterans’ Preference requirements as per Florida statutes.

Responsibilities

• Provide daily supervision, guidance, and training to the Accounting and Financial Reporting Division.
• Review work of accountants and manage year-end close, external auditing, and CAFR preparation.
• Direct and assist with city-wide projects including internal auditing and accounting initiatives.
• Research and implement new accounting standards.
• Interview candidates and assist with personnel actions and staffing decisions.
• Supervise general ledger maintenance, journal entries, and coding accuracy.
• Prepare financial reports or analyses as requested.
• Train on financial compliance and improve procedures across departments.
