Job summary

Eocene Environmental Group, Inc. in the Midwest seeks an Archaeologist V to support and manage cultural resource projects across diverse assignments.

The role involves leading field surveys, preparing reports, and coordinating with agencies to ensure compliance and timely delivery. You will use ArcGIS Field Maps and Survey123, conduct desktop reviews, and supervise field crews on projects throughout MI, IL, and IN.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Archaeology, Anthropology, or closely related field.
• Minimum 12 years of relevant experience.
• Ability to be listed on agency permits as Field Director.
• Proficiency in prehistoric and/or historic archaeology in assigned project regions; ability to describe/differentiate geological and cultural strata.
• Competence in documenting archaeological sites and IOs/IFs; ability to conduct probing or shovel testing.
• Strong navigation skills (GPS/compass); ability to operate 4WD vehicles over rough terrain.
• Read, write and speak English sufficiently to perform job duties and communicate with employees and vendors.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Principal Investigator for assigned projects and reports.
• Conduct Class III/Phase I cultural resource surveys and document archaeological sites and IOs/IFs.
• Perform construction monitoring, including daily compliance inspections and documentation.
• Prepare draft deliverables and support coordination and submission to agencies.
• Utilize ArcGIS Field Maps and Survey123 for data collection.
• Collect GPS and geospatial data with sub-meter accuracy; review site locations.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Archaeology/Anthropology

Master’s Degree in Archaeology/Anthropology (preferred)
