Humana, Inc. seeks a Lead Applied Scientist to design, develop, and scale intelligent decision systems powering the Next Best Action platform.

You will own models and policies end-to-end, from prototyping to production monitoring, partnering with data scientists, engineers, and business stakeholders. The role combines ML/RL with decision science and scalable software engineering, with a remote/hybrid setup, preferably in Boston, MA, and some travel for training/meetings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field and 6+ years in ML/applied science/decision science or related engineering.
• Strong experience designing, deploying, and monitoring ML solutions in production environments.
• Solid understanding of reinforcement learning or sequential decision making.
• Experience with distributed data processing and ML platforms like Databricks, PySpark, Ray, or equivalents.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals and production system design.
• Ability to translate complex business problems into analytical models and production solutions.
• Experience owning models across the full lifecycle from prototyping to production monitoring.

Responsabilités

• Design, develop, and improve ML and RL models for personalized recommendations and sequential decision making.
• Apply decision science, operations research, and simulation to formulate complex decisions.
• Develop production ML pipelines using Python, PyTorch, Databricks, PySpark, Ray RLlib, and MLflow.
• Design experiments and evaluations to assess model effectiveness and business impact.
• Own models throughout their lifecycle from prototyping to deployment and monitoring.
• Collaborate with software engineering and platform teams to ensure scalable, reliable systems.
• Incorporate constraints such as clinical eligibility and business rules into decision systems.
• Provide technical leadership on model architecture and system design.
